| Visiting the history museum in Glasgow, Ky. My 5th great-grandmother Lucinda Bybee and her husband David Layne were born and raised around Glasgow, Ky. When they were adults they moved their young family to southern Indiana and joined the LDS church. David Layne died, but Lucinda and her children went on to Nauvoo, Il and eventually Utah. Her son, Jonathan Ellis Layne helped to settle Cardston, Alberta Canada. My mom and the kids and I drove down to see what the area looked like. |

| Online I found that there was a Bybee family graveyard located on private property. We decided to see if we could find it. The directions led us to the former owner's who happened to not be home when we arrived. I knocked on their neighbor's door to see if they knew anything about the graveyard. A most kind southern woman was out on her front porch. She was very country and very friendly. She told us that the farm with the graveyard had been sold to a 'colored man' but she would call him and ask him if we could come see it. She had us follow her in our car to his house up the road. The new owner of the graveyard was a very old black man. He and his wife were also very friendly and they had a good time yucking it up with the woman who helped us. He had us follow him to the place where the graveyard was. Unfortunately it was all overgrown and we couldn't see any of the headstones. It still made for a nice little adventure and I'm sure our ancestor's appreciated our interest in them. I am happy to have seen part of rural Kentucky and it's people. As we were heading back to the car we were checking ourselves for ticks and the old man reached over and pulled one off my back. I'll never forget it. The name of the road we were on was Tick Ridge. |
