Thula's 5th grad class went on a field trip to Connor Prairie in Fishers, IN (just south of Indianapolis). It's a working farm with a village depicting 1836 and another depicting Corydon, IN in 1863 when the Confederate army came to battle. All the workers were in character and it was one of the best things I have ever been too. I LOVED it and I want to move there so I can visit and volunteer everyday. It was so good that even all our inner city kids loved it and were willing to learn something.

Thula loved these Cornish hens. She was allowed to carry them around and put them into their little cages.
Carding wool. My group of girls loved this station. It was just like doing hair.
Dipping candles.
These kids loved pretending to be volunteers in the Union army. Their sergeant had a gun that really worked (minus bullets) and he hollered at them and marched them around. Then he had them charge up a hill and run screaming into the woods to fight the rebels. Everyone got really into it and the girls just loved it. Afterwards, their sergeant told me that was the most fun he'd had all day.
