School Time

Every year Lela has been chosen to be student of the month. This year (2nd grade) she was picked for the month of September. Each teacher nominates a student and at the end of the month they hold a little ceremony for the students. I was so proud!

This little plaque hangs in the hallway for the whole month.

Two other kids from church were student of the month in September too!
I came to eat lunch with Lela one afternoon and I took a picture with her and her good friend, Ava.

Lela's school had a math night and her teacher Mrs. Gendron dressed up as spider man. She has a very fun teacher this year.

September stuff

I found a black and orange fuzzy caterpillar in the yard back in August. We put it in a mason jar and it spun a web/cocoon around itself. For several weeks I thought it was dead, but one morning out popped a pretty moth. It was fuzzy white with an orange body!
The cocoon/web on the lip of the jar.

Thula was interested in making pies, so she followed Grandma Robin's recipe and her first attempt wasn't too bad.

The following Sunday she tried again and it came out really good.

So proud!
New chore chart!
Lela likes to read stories to her brother.

Young Women in Excellence

Thula has been the only girl in Young Women's for most of the year. In September we had a Young Women in Excellence program to welcome some new girls into the program. It was a fun night and I made a layered jello with all the Young Women value colors. Everyone was impressed (thanks for the recipe Michelle Yuyi!)

Me and my soon to be teenager.

Thula acting goofy with her new church friends.

Rock Creek Labor Day weekend

Discovered a beautiful little park in east Louisville. My favorite way to spend the day.

striking a pose!

Swimming at Deam Lake, Indiana

We went with our friend's the Perez's. We swam, went out in the row boats, and picnicked. It was a fun day.

Some of the primary kids in the Louisville 4th Ward, learning about missionary work.

August Fun

Lela likes to play with her ponies and Stuart plays pretty well with her.

Camping at Jefferson Memorial Forest with the ward.

Kentucky State Fair. The piggies were cute.

Riding the bumper cars.

A special treat; rolling in a bubble in a pool.

Little Stuart in his boat. It was a hot day! We ate loss of fair food  and did a lot of walking. I think I prefer the pumpkin patches in the fall, the weather is so much better!

First Day of School

Lela's a second grader! Her teacher is Mrs. Gendron. She seems like a very organized and fun teacher. She has a theme each year and this year it's super heros. Thula is in the Wonder Woman group. After school we spent some time watching old Wonder Woman clips on Youtube. Stuart starts preschool next week. His teachers came over for a home visit and he is very excited about starting school. I was a little embarrassed when during their visit he came into the room bringing a diaper and said, "Change my diaper please."

Can you see the humidity in this picture? It was already a million degrees at 8:30 a.m.
I didn't get a picture of Thula, but she looked so middle school cute. She is starting 8th grade. She straitened her hair the night before with the new flat iron she begged me to buy. She was so proud to wear her new Converse shoes. She was so nervous about school she kept waking up all night to check the time. She and I are starting the Book of Mormon this year for our morning scripture study. She leaves for the bus at 6:45am.

The rest of summer vacation

We took a tour of the local playhouse and Lela and Stuart got to try on some of the costumes.

Holiday World! We were invited by Lela's friend Ava for her birthday. It was a hot day so we really enjoyed the water rides.

Napping. He was really tired that day!

Lela modeling her new sleeping head cover. She looks so adorable!

We also went swimming at the YMCA many evenings, we went to the Speed Art Museum, the Science Museum, the library, and hung out with church and school friends. It was a pretty good summer. The kids said they want to spend more time with cousins next summer though. So we'll see what we can make happen!
